When Church of the Advent opened its second location in the Brookland neighborhood of Washington, D.C., in April 2016, it needed the same things any growing organization seeks: strategy and structure. The Anglican church found both in longtime congregation member Deborah Tepley (EMBA’16).
Tepley had just completed her Executive MBA at Georgetown McDonough and had previously worked with nonprofits and service-driven groups. Though joining her church as executive director differed from her vision of working internationally with nonprofits, the timing was too fortuitous to pass up.
“Sundays are my workdays now,” Tepley says. “That has changed worship for me. The other thing that’s changed is church being my social life and community and now also my work.”
