Christine Porath, an associate professor of management at Georgetown’s McDonough School of Business, recently presented “Why Being Respectful to your Coworkers is Good for Business,” at a TEDx Talk at the University of Nevada. Porath, who also is the author of the book “Mastering Civility: A Manifesto for the Workplace” and “The Cost of Bad Behavior,” regularly works with leading organizations to help them thrive. Her speaking and consulting clients include Google, United Nations, World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Pixar, Genetech, Expedia, Department of Labor, Department of the Treasury, Department of Justice, and the National Security Agency.

Looking to get ahead in your career? Porath says to start by being respectful to your coworkers. In this science-backed talk, she shares surprising insights about the costs of rudeness and shows how little acts of respect can boost your professional success — and your company’s bottom line.
